DS-180 Series - Mobile Defensive Fighting Position
The Tool of Choice When Protection Against Rifle Threats from 5.56mm and 7.62mm NATO Rounds is Required.

The DS-180 series is certified by HP White Labs to NIJ Level III and meets the US Department of State standard DS-STD-01.01.

DS-180The DS-180, caster mounted DS-181, and ATV-style tire equipped DS-182’s are designed to protect security forces in locations where the highest level of threat exists, including terrorist activity. It is the only mobile, full coverage and full field of view, ballistic resistant tool on the market.

Offering up to 12 square feet of viewing area in a mobile package, the DS-180 series offers protection to the military, anti-terrorism teams, combat groups and observers, infrastructure security guards and anyone else who may come under the threat of hostile sniper rifle fire or terrorist attacks. The DS-180 series is particularly effective for use at fortified ECP’s and overwatch positions.

When a soldier, guard, observer or negotiator is behind a Defenshield MDFP,
they become the highest form of deterrence. MDFP’s are available in four levels of protection to satisfy the ballistic threat and mobility requirements of a wide variety of users.

Custom sized units are also available.

Camography™

Camography™ is Defenshield’s proprietary method of increasing the effectiveness of your MDFP product. Instead of traditional camouflage, Defenshield uses imagery ofthe intended environment to ensure maximum concealment.

Camography™ can also be applied to the transparent armor panel of the unit with a one-way see-thru film. Units used in diplomatic or government facilities may use images of wood paneling, ceramic tiles, or other architectural materials. Outdoor protection could include images of gardens, rock walls, heavy woods, or similar settings. Images can also be taken of the location where the unit will be deployed. The match is exact in color, and scale. The transparent armor panel may be tinted, reflective, or utilize the one-way Camographic film to achieve maximum concealment.

Mobility

The Defenshield Mobile Defensive Fighting Position combines unsurpassed mobility with the highest level of stand-alone protection.  Transportability of the device can be divided in to two categories, operational and strategic.

Operational mobility is provided through the use of casters or filled ATV-type tires, based on the deployment location.  For improved surfaces such as linoleum, asphalt, concrete, and carpeting, heavy duty casters allow the MDFP to be relocated by a single individual.  The unit achieves operational mobility on unimproved surfaces such as gravel, sand, grass, and rougher surfaces through the use of urethane-filled ATV-type tires.  Either option provides mobility under fire, allowing multiple defenders to change positions based on their immediate needs, roll to the location of a stranded or wounded comrade, and even advance on their opponents to gain a superior position.  In addition, unlike handheld shields, the MDFP is free-standing, allowing full use of both hands while remaining fully protected. Video footage showing the ease of mobility for the MDFP is available here.

Strategic mobility refers to the ability to deploy Mobile Defensive Fighting Positions to new and different locations, based on operational needs.  Transport of assembled units can be accomplished using a truck with a lift gate or ramp and winch with a minor incline, or any vehicle with a crane that could be used to lift the unit with the supplied sling assembly.

As an alternative transport method for assembled units, multiple devices could be placed on a “low-boy” trailer for easy drop-deployment using a 2-person team in a few minutes per device.  Pickup of the MDFPs would be accomplished with a winch and a short ramp.

MDFPs are easily disassembled into a few components with minimal tools, and can be transported by vehicle and reassembled on location in a few minutes.

Weight of our standard unit is determined by the size of the unit and the mobility options desired (see notes below):

Sample calculation based on a DS-182 used at a military base ECP (36" x 76" with ATV Tires): (3ft x 6.33ft x 25) + 265 = 739.7 pounds.

*Notes: Width and height in the above chart are in feet. Standard width is 36". Custom widths available from 30" to 48". Standard height is 76". Custom heights available from 70" to 84". Weight is in pounds. ATV tires are urethane filled and cannot lose pressure or be shot out. Complete weight calculations and sizing information for all units available here.

NIJ Level III (Rifles)

The glazing and armor protects against 7.62 mm Full Metal Jacketed (FMJ) bullets (U.S. Military designation M80), with nominal masses of 9.6 g (148 gr) impacting at a minimum velocity of 838 m/s (2750 ft/s) or less. The DS-180 Series Mobile Defensive Fighting Position is independently certified by H. P. White Laboratory, Inc. to satisfy the ballistic resistance requirements of NIJ-STD-0108.01 for Level III protection. This series also meets the US Department of State standard DS-STD-01.01.
