Syracuse, NY, July 8, 2010 – Local business officials discussed exporting during a meeting today with Rick Wade, senior advisor and deputy chief of staff to U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke.
Wade highlighted the National Export Initiative (NEI), which Locke released in February. The NEI will help companies reach President Barack Obama's goal of doubling exports over the next five years and support 2 million jobs nationwide.
The NEI is designed to educate U.S. companies about opportunities overseas, directly connecting them with new customers, and advocating more forcefully for their interests. Wade's visit was part of a national tour that included stops in Michigan and Pennsylvania.
Wade also toured Defenshield and presented the company with an Export Achievement Award, recognizing small and medium-sized companies that have successfully entered the international marketplace.
The Central New York Technology Development Organization at 445 Electronics Parkway in Salina hosted the roundtable discussion. About 25 people attended the event.
