Defenshield expands, opens new Research Facility in Central New York

Syracuse, NY, April 21, 2006 – Defenshield Inc. announces the opening of a new research and development facility in upstate New York. The new facility is in addition to the recently expanded 700 square feet of space being leased by the company on Old Collamer Road in East Syracuse.

The new site will be used to perform pre-certification testing of its products as well as provide needed space for additional development and engineering work. The company conducts extensive ballistic testing on all products before presenting them for official certification from independent testing companies.

Defenshield produces bullet and blast resistant products that provide enhanced security protection and deterrence for military, government and law enforcement agencies, as well as private sector infrastructure facilities including the Nine Mile Nuclear Facility in Oswego, New York.

The company's lead product – a Mobile Defensive Fighting Position (MDFP) – is currently deployed at entry control points at the Pentagon, on Naval ships, in courthouses, at Marine bases and in various cities in Iraq, especially in the Green Zone. Additional products include a line of ballistic replacement windows for fixed-position guardhouses and hurricane resistant windows designed for military and civilian applications. Ballistic resistant products are certified up to NIJ Level III (assault rifles), NIJ Level IV (30-06 armor piercing), and are certified by the US State Department to Standard 01.01 for resistance to both 5.56mm and 7.62mm NATO rounds. Hurricane resistant windows have been independently certified to meet FEMA specifications – a 2-by-4 piece of wood traveling at 100 mph.

New products in development include a hand-held ballistic shield, which the company plans to test at the new facility and have patented soon.
