Defenshield History

Defenshield was founded in 2002 in response to the need to protect security personnel in airports after September 11, 2001. Since then, Defenshield’s Mobile Defensive Fighting Positions (MDFP’s) have been deployed around the world and are saving the lives of a diverse range of customers including the US Marines, US Army, US Navy, US Air Force, the Pentagon Force Protection Agency, in courthouses, at military bases, and at nuclear facilities.

MDFP’s are unique due to their head-to-toe protection with a full field of vision and a mobile platform. Units are fitted with either lag plates for stability, casters for movement on improved surfaces such as concrete or carpet, or filled ATV-style tires for movement on unimproved surfaces such as grass or gravel.

To maximize deterrence and provide aesthetic appeal, units can be painted any color or covered in our unique Camography™ wrapping which allows the unit to blend into its environment, be it desert camo or the woods or cinder blocks. MDFP’s at the Pentagon have a textured grey finish to match the building’s exterior and units used in courthouses often have wood grain finishes.

Personnel standing behind a unit are protected from bullets, blasts and fragments and are able to return fire or call for back-up. Units are also mobile under fire and can be used to cover and remove injured security team members from a scene of conflict. A single officer can move the unit as needed. Uses include physical security—establishing a higher level of deterrence and protection at checkpoints, perimeter control centers, interior or exterior building security, roadblocks and observation points; anti-terror operations; hostage negotiations and riot control.

MDFP units meet a range of ballistics ratings from NIJ Level II, III, III-A, and IV and have been independently tested at HP White Labs in Street, MD. Units provide protection from armor-piercing weaponry, assault and sniper rifles, as well as handgun and shotgun rounds from 9mm through the 30-06AP round. Products are available through the GSA Schedule for federal agencies and to state, local, and municipal law enforcement under the Justice Department 1122 program. Funding is available through the DHS Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP).

Defenshield produces additional ballistic window products including FEMA-spec windows (resists a 2x4 piece of wood traveling at 100mph), .50 cal resistant windows and frames for permanent construction buildings, and replacement window kits for the Cadillac-Gage Peacekeeper vehicles in use by many law enforcement agencies.

Defenshield Inc. is a veteran-owned, New York corporation manufacturing bullet, blast and fragment resistant equipment for the government, military, law enforcement and the private sector for anti-terror, force protection and physical security requirements.
